A team of ten peoples (waste pickers and leaders) from Nidan is going to participate in AIW (Alliance of Waste Pickers) Adhiveshan, to be held in Ahmedabad on 28th and 29th Jan 2011.
The Chief Guest of this Adhiveshan is : Hon’ble Minister Shri Jairam Ramesh, Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt of India and the Venue of the Adhiveshan: SEWA Academy’s Rural Training Centre, Ahmedabad
During this Adhiveshan Nidan team will also present a PowerPoint presentation on -
· situation in the city
· no of WPs in the city
· how many WPs are organised
· Challenges faced by WPs - like for example police harassment, privatisation, closure of Landfills, etc
· Innovations undertaken by the cities groups - like DTDC, any new equipment or tool etc that has had a positive impact on the working conditions and work etc of WPs
The AIW is a network of over 30 organizations working with waste pickers in Patna, Ahemadbad, Pune, Aurangabad, Latur, Delhi, Nagpur, Indore, Bhopal, Ujjain, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Goa
The main objective of this Adhiveshan to highlight the recognize the contribution of waste pickers to society and understand their evolving role in solid waste management, the Adhiveshan is a step in this direction. Up to 300 waste pickers leader from different India cities are expected to participate in two day Adhiveshan. |
